Missouri Women

Leading the way in Business and Entrepreneurship

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Missouri Department of Economic
Development recognizes the strides that women in the workplace have made over
the years. Missouri women, many of whom are acting as trailblazers in their
respective career paths, as well as breaking down traditional career gender
stereotypes, are a great embodiment of the theme of Women’s History Month 2014,
“Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment.”

In 2012,
there were more than 1.47 million women in Missouri’s workforce, making up more
than 48 percent of the state’s total labor force. Over the past ten years, there
have been several traditionally male-dominated employment sectors that have seen
an influx of female workers, including the agriculture, forestry, fishing and
hunting sector and the utilities sector. One of the highest gains came in the
professional, scientific and technical services sector, where women workers
increased by 18.99 percent, gaining almost 10,000 jobs over the last 10 years.

This impressive female labor force in Missouri is made up of many
outstanding entrepreneurs and business leaders, including innovators in a
variety of fields.
