MU is a leader in collaboration with business, industry, government, educational institutions, communities and families, and a driving force in national, state and regional economic development.  As a large economic enterprise that helps propel other Missouri economic enterprises and support the state’s economic well being, MU leads economic development efforts through its continuing commitment to the highest standards of teaching, research and extension.  Through transfer of knowledge and technology, MU proactively promotes and supports creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship in a global setting.
To fulfill its mission, functional committees have been appointed to focus on three main areas as described below.

MU IS AN ECONOMIC ENTERPRISE
MU’s strategic contribution to the vitality and growth of the statewide and more specifically the regional economy of Central Missouri is reflected in its role as a provider of jobs, contributor to increased tax revenues, and a means of enhancing value-added economic and social capital.  Campus-wide committees that support this strategy are MU: AN ECONOMIC ENTERPRISE and COMMERCIALIZATION.

MU SUPPORTS MISSOURI’S ECONOMIC ENTERPRISES
MU supports economic enterprises by annually providing a high quality workforce through the largest number of undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees awarded in the state.  In addition, MU provides extensive support for a wide range of new venture and existing businesses as well as continuing professional development opportunities to Missouri employers and employees.  Campus-wide committees that support this strategy are SUPPORT FOR EXISTING BUSINESS and HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT.
