City Master Planning
The work of MU Extension often has a long-term impact. In 1994, the new town of Park Hills was formed when the citizens of Flat River, Rivermines, Ester and Elvins voted to consolidate. The groundwork to make this new community viable and cohesive was facilitated by MU Extension Specialist Shelley Bush. Eight town hall meetings brought hundreds of residents together to build a relationship and vision for their new community. The results from a community survey were used in her work with the city and the Planning and Zoning Board to complete the Park Hills Master Plan, which saved the community approximately $20,000 - $40,000. Park Hills is now a thriving community and continues to look to the future.
