Expansion of Health CareĀ

Springfield will receive $10 million in the next state fiscal year, which starts July 1, for the University of Missouri School of Medicine class expansion and Springfield clinical campus.  The state budget also allots $1.3 million for occupational therapy and other related programs at Missouri State University.

The two programs are the result of a unique partnership between CoxHealth, Mercy Springfield, Missouri State University and University of Missouri.  These institutions hope the programs will help alleviate the shortage of health care workers statewide.

“The single best way to advance economic development in our state is to have an educated and well-trained workforce,” said MSU president Clif Smart.  “These programs represent an important step toward achieving that goal by broadening the educational opportunities available in southwest Missouri.” Read more at KSPR.com.
